AB King Pro
If you like watching fitness infomercials, you have probably seen programs that sing the benefits of a machine known as the Ab King Pro. Since $119 is the average price of this product, the decision to purchase it is not one that should be taken lightly. Is it effective? The reviews have been mixed. However, keep in mind that the effectiveness of most exercise machines depends partially on the product itself, and partially on the movement techniques of the user. That said, weigh the negatives against the positive, and decide if it will really be beneficial.
Ab King Pro Description
According to the promotional websites and infomercials, the Ab King Pro is designed to provide you with a 200 degree range of motion while performing a traditional sit-up. You hold on to a bar, rest your head against the pad, lean back and perform crunches. There’s an adjustable tension device, which means that you can make the exercises more challenging as you get stronger. Like many other pieces of home exercise equipment, the Ab King Pro is designed to “fold easily for under the bed storage.” Apparently, the machine has been designed to tone the lower, middle, upper abs and obliques. Sounds ideal, yes? Well, not really.
Ab King Pro Fact and Fiction
If you want to have some fun, go to YouTube and type in the words “Ab King Pro.” You will find a vast number of videos. Some are in English, while others are in foreign languages. While some are attempting to be serious infomercials, a vast majority were designed to make fun of the product. Even if you don’t understand the language, you will realize why these videos are hilarious. This is a product that was made to be ridiculed. Here’s why:
Claim: The Ab King Pro was designed to support and keep the neck and back comfortable while performing crunches. Fact: Watch the video. The neck position is unnatural, and the users do not look comfortable.
Claim: The Ab King pro works the obliques. Fact: Um, sorry. There’s no rotational movement happening here. While the obliques may work as supporting muscles during a crunch, they are not the prime movers for this exercise. As such, whatever oblique-toning benefits you get from using the Ab King Pro are less than impressive.
Claim: The Ab King Pro can be easily folded for storage under your bed. Fact: Oh come on! You can perform crunches on the floor, and you don’t need to fold up your floor after use.
So what’s the Bottom Line?
At $119 dollars, this product is an absolute rip-off. Save your money and invest in a stability ball. The stability ball allows for increased range of motion, while providing enhanced balance, as well as movement in multiple planes of motion. In the future, always be weary of products that offer false promises. Ripped abs are a result of diet, aerobic and multiple forms of toning exercise. No type of workout can create ripped abs in days!
